Fuel Pump
After the engine went
back together, I tested all the parts I could. The old fuel pump
had dried up and wasn't working. Putting the new one in was pretty
straight forward and relatively cheap.

The Key
I used a screwdriver
to hotwire the car into starting. By connecting the coil directly
to the battery I bypassed the key / ignition system allowing
the coil to funtion which makes the plugs spark. While charging
the coil, I shorted across two terminals on the solenoid of the
starter and bammo.... IT STARTED!
Please don't ask how
I know to hotwire a car, let's just say it was once a hobby.

Here's some actual
footage of the running engine. I've compressed it down for easy

Compression Test
Once the engine was
warmed up, I was finally able to perform a proper compression
test. The news was good as the cylinders all checked in at around
110 psi. It is important that all the cylinders be about the
same level and over 100 psi. I was very happy.

Back to The Brakes
While in John's Bug Shop
in Niagara Falls, I came across a pair of brand new rear brake
plates. This is the large black disc that all the brake components
attach to. The old ones were OK, but when I saw the brand new
ones, well......you know.

Axle Boots
The swing axle joint
at the transmission has to be protected from water and debris
from the road. A rubber boot clamps over the axle and the transmission
to seal it up.

New Brake lines
I started to install
the brake lines, starting from the rear. Some of the lines have
some very delicate bends and curves needed to fit them into place
properly.

Almost There
Amazingly, I can see
the light at the end of the tunnel. The chassis is pretty much
complete, I need only to finish the brake lines, intall the pedals
and reinstall the clutch. The emergency cables are all hooked
up, the transmission is ready to go and the engine is running.
It's also starting to warm up outside which always gets the blood
pumping. This is very exciting.
