Week 16 (March 19-25)

I've finished the lower chassis and am satisfied that it is ready for the body to attach. I'm still a bit clued out on what to do next, but I'm looking into it. The weather hasn't really co-operated, but I've managed to bundle up the chassis and put the body into the shop. As I slowly pick away on small parts of the body, I'm getting an idea of how to progress.

Engine Off Again

Now that I've determined that the engine runs, I've taken it off to make working on the body easier. Mike and I loaded it into the back of my truck and have it stored at his house. My wife an I have an "agreement" about VW parts in our house.

Covered Up

The car is now outside in the fresh air for the first time. I'm a little funny about keeping the chassis dry - even though it's coated with bulletproof paint and completely sealed.

And Winter Returns

It took about 15 minutes for the nice day to turn into a small scale blizzard. I double-tarped the car and shook my head in disbelief.

Big Switcheroo

With the chassis outside, the body could now go in the shop. I'll let the car dry off and begin to sort out the next few steps in the operation.

Front End

Here's some pictures of the body in its present state. Not pretty is it? This si the front of the car with the hood up. It doesn't look too bad, but the nose of the car is definitely in need of replacement.

Inside Front

The inner fenders have been repaired and patched extensively. All these old repairs will have to be removed so I can get the new parts in.

Inside Rear

This part of the car is the biggest mess. The crossmembers are completely rotted out. I've got new ones, but I'm hoping there is still something to attach them too when all is said and done.
