Rear Wheel Well
This part of the car
is in REALLY tough shape. The rear weight of the car sits on
the chassis at this point so it must be solid.

Cut It Out.
Before cutting, I
made very careful measurement of the position of the body mount.
I then used the replacement panel to trace out cutting lines
on the body. The air chisel cut throught the old metal with ease
leaving a nice sharp edge to attach to.

Weld It In.
Using the previous
measurements, I theoretically positioned the body mount
in the right position and tacked the new panel in place. It fit
nicely in some places, but doesn't mate quite right in other
spots. It could be that I'm too picky about the fit, but it could
be better I think.

From The Inside
This piece really
won't be visible when the carpets are put in so I'm not too concerned
with a smooth finish. The area in the circle is the problem area
for me at the moment. Four seperate body panels come together
to make this corner.

Old Gas Heater
I'm removing most
of the old components from the body to clean them etc. Some stuff
- like this old gas heater - will be tossed. I'm not likely to
hook the heating sytem up and I'm certainly not going to use
this old beast. Carbon monoxide anybody?....

Great Tool
I can't imaging body
work before the birth of the mig welder. It is so easy to use
and and does such a clean job! I recently put it on wheels -
it was just too heavy to drag around the shop. There will be
LOTS of welding in the near future!

Getting Down To It
With all the fenders,
glass and trunk lid off, the car is pretty much naked. I'm
slowly removing the old electrical system - once again lots of
pictures are taken for re-installation.

Just Cut It Out
The entire lower portion
of the car is rusted out. I have all the replacment panels so
I have to cut the old crap off to make roof for the new. Hopefully
it all goes back on without much hassle.

New Addition To the
Family
This is the new baby.
You don't really think I actually depend on the VW's for my livelyhood
do you? My 94 Nissan pick-up (seen in some of the backgrounds
a few weeks ago) was starting to show her age. I've only had
this 2001 for a few days, it turned over the 100 km mark on the
way home from the dealership. Quite the contrast from the bug
isn't it?
